About SERGG
The Southeastern Regional Genetics Group (SERGG) is a non-profit 501c3 whose members include healthcare professionals involved in genetic services and newborn screening in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
One of the goals of SERGG is to address the inequities in genetic service and resources in the region and to expand existing regional capabilities and resources and to develop new regional systems to address these gaps. Another goal is to improve the existing regional communication infrastructure and to facilitate information sharing among providers of genetic services and consumers and to establish collaborative partnerships with other professional organizations.

2026 Annual Meeting:
The 43rd annual meeting of the Southeastern Regional Genetics Group (SERGG) was held July 16-18, 2026 at the Renaissance Downtown Marriott Hotel in Asheville, North Carolina. 242 healthcare professionals attended the meeting. The invited speakers and their presentations included: Dwight Koeberl, MD, PhD, from Duke University, who presented “mRNA Therapies for Inherited Disorders of Metabolism”; Curtis Coughlin, PhD, MBE, MS from the University of Colorado Anschutz who presented “ The Cost of a Delayed Diagnosis: Prioritizing Neonatal Treatment for Pyridoxine-dependent Epilepsy”; Kelsi Hagerty, MMSc, CGC, from Emory University who presented “It Takes a Village: A Glimpse Into the World of Pediatric Cancer Predisposition”; Scott Shone, PhD, HCLD(ABB) from the NC State Laboratory of Public Health who presented “Baby’s First Emergency – Preparedness for the Newborn Screening Program”; Kristen Wigby, MD from Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego, who presented “Advances in Genomic Medicine in the NICU and Beyond”; and Nikhil Sahajpal, PhD from the Greenwood Genetic Center, who presented “Next Generation Cytogenomics with Optical Genome Mapping”.
In addition, twenty-one 15-minute presentations were made from abstracts submitted. Thirty-eight posters were presented during the Poster Session.
Trainee travel awards were provided to 19 trainees. The awards for Best Platform Presentation and Best Poster Presentation by a trainee both went to Yutaka Furuta, MD from Emory University. The “Visit to Exhibits” gift card was won by Adrian Parker, BS from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

MEETING REGISTRATION
Early Registration for the 2027 meeting will open in January and end June 15, 2027. Fees will increase by $50 beginning June 16, 2027. Register early!

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION
Abstracts will open in early 2027 for the 2027 Annual Meeting in Asheville, NC: Please follow the link to learn more about submission requirements and to submit your abstract for consideration. Abstracts are due no later than 6:00 pm EDT on April 16, 2027.
Abstracts and required documentation must be submitted by the presenting author. Acceptance of abstract and format assigned will be sent to the presenting author AFTER May 15, 2027.
Industry submitted abstracts will be accepted for Posters ONLY and limited to ONE accepted poster per exhibit table.
Trainees who submit an abstract that is accepted for either a Platform or Poster presentation, may be eligible to receive a $750 travel reimbursement following the meeting and their registration fee will be waived. Proof of trainee status must be submitted at time of abstract submission to be considered for the travel award. Presenting trainees will automatically be included to receive a cash award for either the Best Platform Presentation by a Trainee OR the Best Poster Presentation by a Trainee during the Business Meeting on Saturday, July 17, 2027.
LODGING
A block of rooms has been reserved for SERGG at the Renaissance Downtown Marriott, Asheville, North Carolina. The room rate is $222 per night. There is also a parking fee of $11 per night for any registered guest.
